At 5 PM Jonathan Curiel is a journalist in San Francisco. A staff writer with the San Francisco Chronicle, he is the author of Al’ America: Travels Through America’s Arab and Islamic Roots. The book, published by The New Press in November of 2008, details the historic influence of Arab and Muslim culture on America, from the time of Columbus to the modern age. http://www.jonathancuriel.com/
At 6 PM Dr. Stephen Zunes is a Professor of Politics and and Chair of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of San Francisco. He serves as an advisory committee member and a senior policy analyst for Foreign Policy in Focus, www.fpif.org. Professor Zunes is the author of scores of articles for scholarly and general readership on Middle Eastern politics, U.S. foreign policy, international terrorism, social movements, and human rights. He is the principal editor of Nonviolent Social Movements (Blackwell Publishers, 1999) and the author of the highly-acclaimed Tinderbox: U.S. Middle East Policy and the Roots of Terrorism (Common Courage Press, 2003) and the forthcoming Western Sahara: Nationalism and Conflict in Northwest Africa (Syracuse University Press.)
