Its’ First Amendment Friday. Your soapbox - all topics are on the table.

At 5 PM Lt Eric Shine with an update on his case.

At 5:30 David Malsch with this week’s movie reviews and DVD releases. Check out David’s website at http://www.davideatworld.com

We also spoke with Stefan Forbes - writer and director of BOOGIE MAN: THE LEE ATWATER STORY - a gripping political thriller about Lee Atwater, a blues-playing rogue whose rambunctious rise from the South to Chairman of the GOP made him a political rock star. . In eye-opening interviews with elite Republicans and friends of Atwater, Boogie Man sheds new ligh t on his crucial role in America’s shift to the right. To Democrats offended by the 1988 Willie Horton controversy, Atwater was a remorseless political assassin aptly dubbed by one Congresswoman “the most evil man in America.” But he remains a hero to many Republicans for his irreverent sense of humor, his deep understanding of the American heartland, and his unapologetic vision of politics as war. This film builds to a moving portrait of a cynic’s desperate deathbed search for meaning. http:// http://www.boogiemanfilm.com

With any luck we’ll also hear from activst, teacher, and veteran Leonard Clark.

That tune I played earlier this week “Hold Them Accountable” was from some very talented artists from Rhode Island. The lyrics were written and sung by Bryan Toranzo to music composed by Jimi Torrey and Alex Karalov. It can be accessed here http://www.myspace.com/sensitiveartists

We spoke with Dr Peter Linebaugh Professor, a student of E.P. Thompson, received his Ph.D. in British history from the University of Warwick in 1975. A graduate of Swarthmore and of Columbia, he taught at Rochester, New York University, University of Massachusetts-Boston, Harvard and Tufts before joining The University of Toledo in 1994. Grants from the Max Planck Institute in Göttingen and from the Fulbright and Mellon fellowship programs have supported his research. We also spoke with Jeffrey B. Perry an independent, working class scholar who was formally educated at Princeton, Harvard, Rutgers, and Columbia University. He was a long-time activist, elected union officer with Local 300, and editor for the National Postal Mail Handlers Union (div. of LIUNA, AFL-CIO, CTW). Dr. Perry preserved and inventoried the Hubert H. Harrison papers (now at Columbia University’s Rare Book and Manuscript Library) and is the editor of “A Hubert Harrison Reader” (Wesleyan University Press, 2001). He is also literary executor for Theodore W. Allen (author of “The Invention of the White Race”) and edited and introduced Allen’s “Class Struggle and the Origin of Racial Slavery: The Invention of the White Race.” We discussd his work on Hubert Harrison, (1883-1927) was an immensely skilled writer, orator, educator, critic, and political activist who, more than any other political leader of his era, combined class consciousness and anti-white-supremacist race consciousness into a c oherent political radicalism. The St. Croix, Virgin Islands-born and Harlem-based Harrison profoundly influenced “New Negro” militants, including A. Philip Randolph and Marcus Garvey, and his synthesis of class and race issues is a key unifying link between the two great trends of the Black Liberation Movement: the labor- and civil-rights-based work of Martin Luther King Jr. and the race and nationalist work associated with Malcolm X. http://www.jeffreybperry.net
